Puppets

‘Ungloved’ puppet team started in January 2002. The main aim of the ministry is to spread the gospel by communicating Bible stories in a fun and non-threatening way within the community.

The team is made up of teenagers, ageing from twelve years up. The members are asked to commit themselves for a minimum of one whole year as the puppet skills require time and practice, and performances need to be planned and practiced in advance.
We meet together for at least two hours every week to practice our songs and skits. During these sessions, the teenagers develop a range of skills; including interaction and communication, teamwork, puppet character development and personal confidence. They also develop creative thinking for shows that include choreography, songs, prop. making and even writing some of their own sketches.

We also have a devotional time each week to dedicate our work to the Lord and also to keep our minds focussed on what we are doing and why. This is also a time where we are able to share and pray for each other.

Each year the team attend regional training days, and the European Puppet Festival held in Reading, where we are able to attend training sessions to develop our skills. This is also an opportunity for us to enter and win in some of the competitions.

‘Ungloved’ work in the local community supporting charity events, visiting pre-schools, mums and tots. We go into schools and take assemblies. We have also supported local church anniversary events and family services. We also helped shoppers with their shopping in the town centre and with the Christmas shopping by performing in the Meadows shopping centre.

Since 2002, we have performed a nativity show during the week before Christmas. The shows are always packed out, so be sure to get your programmes early!
